From newsrooms to boardrooms

Tim Timmons has risen from a career that began by earning less than $200 a week to becoming an owner of multiple businesses and a published and respected author.
How he got to where he is today can be traced back to hard-working roots in entry-level newspaper jobs.
He began his newspaper career as a high school sports writer in Noblesville, Ind. After college, he wrote for a weekly newspaper in Zionsville and then at the Journal & Courier in Lafayette.
Former Journal Review Editor Gail Hamilton brought him to Crawfordsville as the sports editor. During that time, he won numerous regional and state awards for his writing, photography and design work.
While in Crawfordsville, he and his wife Linda were married at the 1983 Strawberry Festival on the courthouse veranda. In 1986, their first child was born.
Timmons was promoted by Freedom Newspapers to a larger paper in Odessa ,Texas. While there he received his first national writing recognition. That was followed by a string of moves as he climbed the career ladder. He left newsrooms to become first a general manager, then a newspaper publisher and later a regional vice president. In 2002 he took on the role of vice president and general manager at the South Bend Tribune.
In 2004, his first book was published, Coaching Success -- Creating Champions for the Business World.
He has been very active in community and trade associations and groups. He has been a board member and / or board chair for Boys & Girls Clubs in different states, Chamber of Commerce boards, United Way boards, serving as both a board chair and a drive chair, Girls, Inc., a homeless shelter, battered womens' shelter, Texas Sportswriters board of directors, the Hoosier State Press Association board of directors and the Indiana Bulls board of directors. He has been involved in coaching high school and adult sports.
He and his wife Linda have two married daughters, three grandsons, a dog a cat and a motorcycle they love taking on trips. They currently reside in Crawfordsville.
