|Bubbles perfect . . . again|
Hello Sports Fans.
I know, I know. You all are thinking, "How can this Bubbling Caldron predict perfect week after perfect week?"
Hard to believe, huh! But once again, well, actually for the fourth time in the last six weeks Ol' Bubbles didn't miss a pick. And once again, the scores were uncannily close. Let's see, I had TW thumping C'ville by 34. The Bruins won by 35. And I had the Chargin' Chargers chomping down the Hot Dogs by 45 and they won by 42. In all fairness, even though I got the outcome right, I sure didn't see the Mounties losing that badly, and I also didn't think Dannyville would hang that close with the WB. But hey, four games and four perfect picks. In Vegas, that means money, baby!
Let's get to this week, the final week of the regular season.
Tri-West at North Montgomery
This is a big one, but not nearly as big as it would've, could've, should've been had the Chargers not stumbled against the WB a couple of weeks ago. Now, the Stars just have to beat a bumblin', fumblin' Lebanon team to wrap up a perfect 7-0 Sagamore Athletic Conference season. More on that below.
SAC title or not, this is a huge test for the state-ranked Orange and Blue. TW is the defending state champs and have been a real pain in the . . . side for our Chargers. North hasn't ended up on the right side of the ledger against Tri-West since 2011. That was like so yesterday . . . uh, well, not exactly yesterday. It was really four years . . . never mind.
The Chargers are 6-2 overall while Tri-West is 5-3. The interesting part is that North's losses have come against 7-1 Western Boone and 5-3 Brebeuf. TW, on the other hand, has lost to the same Western Boone squad, undefeated and No. 1 in Class 3A West Lafayette and undefeated and No. 1 in Class 2A Evansville Mater Dei. For those of you keeping score at home, that's three losses to teams with a combined 23-1 record. North's two losses have a combined mark of 12-4.
What's that mean? Nada.
What is important is what happens on the field tonight. Don't be surprised if both squads aren't looking toward what should be easy first-round sectional games next week. And that, friends, means this is a tough pick. When in doubt, go with the MCteams. North 21, TW 20.
Danville at Crawfordsville
After falling badly against Tri-West last week - and facing tough Hamilton Heights next week in the sectional, CHS plays host to a Danville squad that I had written off. But then came the surprising lopsided win over Frankfort and a gritty performance before falling by only two touchdowns to Western Boone last week - a WeBo team, mind you that drilled CHS 49-20.
It's true that I always pull for the home team, but it seems like this season fell apart a while back. I hope I'm wrong but it looks like Dannyville, 35-21.
Frankfort at Southmont
Injuries, flu, bad calls and bad bounces have turned what was once a promising season into a disaster for the Mounties. However, the same could be said about the Hot Diggety Dogs. Southmont won its opener and then promptly fell six of the next seven weeks. Frankfort fared a little better, but not much, winning three of the first four before losing the next four in a row.
This is a game that either team could win. And the thing is, I can't decide if it's going to be 14-12, 34-28 or 55-0. Let's go with the Mounties, 34-28.
Only one other SAC game this week, Lebanon at Western Boone. This should be a cakewalk for the Stars. They are much better than the Tiggers. But this is a Boone County rivalry. The last two times these guys played, games were decided by four and five points. This won't be any different. Hail the Champs! WB 28, Lebanon 24.
