Offerings from a newspaper vagabond
Maybe Timmons didn't have many friends as a child? Whatever the reason, he's invented multiple characters throughout his career that allow him to use a different voice in reaching readers.
This is a short explainer on some of the sections offered for your enjoyment, or not, in this site.
Bubbling Caldron
The Bubbling Caldron was the first character Timmons created (that he admits to). Timmons unveiled his friend Bubbles in the mid 1980s when he was a sports editor in Crawfordsville, Ind. The Caldron is a brash, over-the-top-and-in-your-face prognosticator. His subject is mostly high school football and basketball, although he occasionally wanders into college and pro sports. Bubbles is quick with a wisecrack and has a sharp tongue to boot. Funny thing is, the Caldron usually has a pretty good accuracy rating.
Honest Hoosier
Timmons and Honest Hoosier have been making newspaper readers smile, chuckle, groan and even occasionally think a little. Timmons said he got the idea for Honest Hoosier from such great Hoosiers as Kin Hubbard and the wonderful quips that Wendell Trogdon used to write in the old Indianapolis News.
John Hammer and Bubba Castiron
One of the things Timmons has enjoyed writing about over the years is politics. Every once in a while he uses these two characters to make a point in a different way. Some politicians seem to get pretty offended by some of these columns. Timmons seems to think that's not always a bad thing.
Two Cents
This is a personal column that Timmons has written for different newspapers on and off since the 1980s. It's home for Hammer and Bubba and it's the format for which Timmons has won the most awards.

Timmons has often said he's the luckiest guy around. He's been able to work in newspapers from North Carolina to California and more than a few places in between, including his beloved home state of Indiana. Along the way he's won local, state and national awards for his various writings. More importantly, he will quickly tell you, he's made some great friends along the way. He credits much of what he's written to the great experiences friends and family have given him.
Some of the sections listed here include sports, some news, some are just from the heart.
One of the things Timmons seems to do well is connect with people. But you can decide for yourself.
Feel free to browse through the various sections and please share with him what you think.
